Last night the Benbrook High School LadyCat basketball team beat their district rival Western Hills 62-37 in a strong showing at the historic Billingsley Fieldhouse.
The first half proved to be competitive with the LadyCats going into half with only a 6 point lead. But after halftime adjustments and a competitive charge in the second half, the LadyCats ran away with the game. The LadyCat zone defense was solid holding the Cougars to only 15 points in the second half combined with pushing the pace in fast break play.
Leading the LadyCats was senior Guard, Zoey Smothermon who took advantage of fast break opportunities finishing the game with 17 points, 5 assists and 3 blocks. Also finishing with a strong game was junior Guard, Xaihannah Madison who put in 16 points.
Coach Lofton was motivated and excited about the big win as they make a run to advance into the 4A UIL playoffs, “Tonight’s game was a confidence builder after losing to Dunbar and Eastern Hills. A game that put us back on the District hunt and playoff track. We still have some areas to tweak but the win was a team morale booster. Our Seniors and our guard play was very instrumental to our game and the win. Proud of our girls for pressing through the tough times of adversity.”
The LadyCats will travel to Diamond Hill Jarvis on Friday (730pm) as they continue district play.
