The Benbrook HS Boys Basketball varsity team traveled to San Angelo over the weekend to play in the 2022 Doug McCutchen Memorial Tournament. This would mark the first travel trip for the boys basketball program.

The tournament featured teams 4-6A from across the state and were held at two local area high schools, Central and Lake View. The Benbrook Hoops team was matched up again host school San Angelo Central, El Paso High School, El Paso De Valle and Monahans. The level of play was high and gave the Bobcats a great platform to compete as they prepare to make a playoff run in District 9-4A.

Aside from competing in the tournament, highlighting the trip included a campus tour of Angelo State University. Angelo State representatives provided an admissions overview followed by a tour of ASU facilities including the university center, library, recreation center, science building, Vincent Memorial, residence hall and cafeteria.

The team had a great time each night of the trip attending an Angelo State Mens Basketball game and having a team dinner which included an Xbox tourney!

A special thank you to Fort Worth ISD, Benbrook HS Principal Mr. Richard Penland, Benbrook HS Boys Athletic Coordinator Coach Cody Slater, Angelo State University, San Angelo ISD, Benbrook HS Athletic Booster Club, Chaperones Josh Hayes and John Dilday and everyone involved that helped make this trip happen. It was an amazing and memorable experience!
