Sanger edged out the win against our Bobcats in a hard fought 35-49 game. Though they lost, the Bobcats had a standout performance considering the amount of new young players debuting their first ever varsity game and in stunning new uniforms too.
The Benbrook offense started the game steadily, driving up the field and scoring the first touchdown of the year on the third drive. Trailing in the second half, the Bobcats offense, helmed by sophomore quarterback Colin Thompson would find success in the air connecting with receiver Kyler Hayes, Kade Cross, Charlie Clements, and Eli Guzman. Collin Thompson would finish the night going 17/28 240 yds with 1 touchdown from the air and 13 rushes for 54 yds and 4 touchdowns on the ground. Senior wide receiver, Kyler Hayes had 5 catches for 112 yards including a pivotal 25 yd touchdown inside of the 2 minute mark.
The Bobcat defense fought hard helping to keep the Bobcats in the game. Key second half defensive plays included a pass deflection by junior Eli Guzman and penetrations in the backfield caused by Benbrook's D-line and linebackers on fourth down to get the ball back into the hands of the Bobcat offense.
Coach Slater was proud of his team’s effort in the season kickoff telling the RallyCat’s Post Game Show, “I was proud of their effort, we talk about attitude and effort and they came out with great attitude and effort all night. Even when we got down they found a way to keep battling and clawing, finding a way to get back into the game.”
